The scholarship application is now open and will close February 28th. Scholarship awards will only be made available to those students who have applied by the February 15th deadline.

Typical awards range from $500 to $1000 each. Please indicate in your application if you have need of a larger amount. We can not guarantee scholarships for every student who applies, nor can we guarantee award amounts outside of our typical range. However, we are willing to work with students on a case by case basis when there are outstanding circumstances involved. Please contact us at fger.jirp@gmail.com if you have questions.

Students will be notified of scholarship award amounts by March 8th. Applications for admission will be accepted on a rolling basis after this date, but students who have completed applications submitted on or before February 15, 2017 will be evaluated first.

*Alaskan Scholarships- JIRP offers two scholarships specifically for Alaskan students (a full ride scholarship and a $5,000 scholarship). Applicants must be an Alaskan resident or a full time student at a university located in Alaska to be eligible. To apply for the Alaskan scholarships- fill out our normal scholarship application form and mention you are an Alaskan in one of the essay questions.

Because JIRP has limited funds for student scholarships, we strongly suggest you seek additional funding from third party sources. Your home academic institution or alma mater can be an excellent place to start. Friends and family may also find it valuable to contribute toward your educational opportunities, especially ones as unique as JIRP! Reaching out to local business groups, such as Rotary, can be fruitful as many of these organizations have funds to support local students. It is more likely for you to receive a few small awards rather than one large award, so you may want to apply for multiple awards or scholarships. In addition, the following links may be good places to start when searching for appropriate funding awards online:

In addition, the committee endeavors to select awardees that expand the diversity of people studying geosciences in the field and a collaboration with the Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) funds two additional awards specifically for women.
